St. Bridgit’s Day + Imbolc = Spring! Feb 1, 2019 | Uncategorized Gabhaim molta Bríghde!(I give praise to Brigid!)Today marks Imbolc, or Candlemas, signifying the beginning of spring and the return of life. Also known as Brigid’s day, I decided to learn this Irish song in honor of her and my roots (and the first time I’m giving this acapella app a try). She is not only a saint but a triple goddess, so while this song refers to her as “daughter”, she also represents the Great Mother and the Wise Crone (or Crowned One). She is a sun goddess and one who carries the sacred flame. We thank her for bringing the light and the waters and the flowers back to us and kindling the flame in our hearts, for protecting our homes and reminding us to stand our ground, with calm strength and appreciation for life. This flame was passed to me by an herbalist, Imbolc last year. She had received it in Ireland, where Brigid’s flame is tended and never goes out.“I give praise to BrigidDaughter of IrelandDaughter of all landsLet us praise herThe bright torch of LeinsterShining across the countryLeader of Ireland’s childrenAnd of gentle women”There’s more to the song but I only had one minute ! Merry Imbolc !
